John Meehl, Headmaster

John Meehl was born in Pasadena, California, a block away from the route of the Rose Parade and a mile from the Rose Bowl. Mr. Meehl received his B.A. in History at Pomona College (CA). At Pomona he started in both varsity tennis as a sophmore, and as a junior and senior started on two conference golf championship teams, which went to the national collegiate golf tournament (today called Division III Tournament). He then went to Stanford University (CA) where he obtained an M.A. in history.

After graduate school, Mr. Meehl spent five years teaching social studies and coaching at La Jolla Country Day School (CA). This stint was interrupted in the middle by four years in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War, including two tours in Saigon, Republic of South Vietnam, for which he received two Air Force Commendation Medals. After teaching in La Jolla, Mr. Meehl took a position at the Kiski School (PA) near Pittsburgh. Here he was teacher, coach, Athletic Director, and Business Manager over a 13- year stay.

In 1990, Mr. Meehl was appointed Headmaster of Oak Mountain Academy (GA) near Atlanta, where he served for 12 years. Headmaster of CFA since 2002, he coaches varsity boys' tennis. He still holds the all-time coaching record for single season, winning percentages in tennis at three schools, La Jolla, Kiski, and Oak Mountain (two G.I.S.A. State Championships) and in soccer at one (Kiski).
